I believe that birth is a natural process. As women, our bodies were designed to become pregnant, grow babies, and birth our children. Behind us we have the power and wisdom of thousands of years of birthing women, along with a century of medical and scientific research. Finding the balance for each individual woman’s needs is the key. My practice is based on informed choice. Open communication and trust are essential building blocks for a good working relationship. Homebirth is statistically as safe as hospital birth for a healthy, well-nourished woman, attended by a skilled midwife. I see myself as a guardian of the natural process, empowering women and families to create the birth experience they desire.
Complete prenatal care, labor and birth support, and postpartum care for mom and baby. I offer a free consultation visit for us to meet and discuss philosophies, previous births, and your health history. A birth assistant will accompany me to your birth and to a few prenatal appointments. I also welcome student midwives into my practice. I serve a wide area covering most of central NH.
I am a graduate from Birthwise Midwifery School in Bridgton, ME. I did my clinical training with several local home birth midwives, a bilingual birthing center in El Paso, TX, and a local family health care practice. Over the past 5 years I have attended over 110 births. I am nationally certified (Certified Professional Midwife) and state certified (New Hampshire Certified Midwife). I hold certifications in neonatal resuscitation and adult and child CPR. I also have training as a Doula. I currently work part time as a health worker, counselor, and educator in women’s health care. In 1997 I completed a year long Herbal Medicine course, which I incorporate into my practice. Before beginning my midwifery training I worked in veterinary medicine for many years, and raised three children.
