This unique four-day workshop combines the best of advanced practice midwifery education PLUS Phlebotomy and Twins and breech and ECV

About this Event

Day One - AP Midwifery Skills

  • Advanced fetal monitoring, out-of-hospital NST, and fluid assessment

  • Shoulder dystocia prevention and management with hands on mannequin practice and role play

  • Internal fetal head positioning & re-positioning; cervical lip diagnosis & treatment

  • Non-pharmaceutical cervical ripening & labor induction including herbs, oils, homeopathics, natural prostaglandins & oxytocin release, and bulb foley placement

Day Two - Hemorrhage and Suturing

  • Hemorrhage diagnosis & treatment

  • Estimating blood loss

  • Preventing tears

  • Performing episiotomy

  • Suturing – Including a 4 hour hands-on session on repairing lacerations including labial, clitoral hood, & 3rd degree extension

Day Three - Twins, Breech, & ECV

  • Screening for twins and breech in your practice

  • The skill of palpation - don't miss the breech

  • Review of mother-led turning techniques

  • Diagnosed 'high risk', now what? and informed decision-making with your clients

  • Managing a twin pregnancy from diagnosis to delivery

  • Timing for twin births; knowing when to act

  • Gentle External Breech Version (ECV) in pregnancy

  • Cardinal movements for the normal breech delivery

  • Breech extraction techniques for the abnormal breech delivery

  • Evaluation of risk factors for breech and multiples

  • Considerations for the immediate postpartum

Day Four - Phlebotomy

  • Practice phlebotomy skills

  • Practice IV therapy skills

  • Emergency IV skills role play

  • Midwifery pharmacology review

  • Considerations for monitoring during IV therapy

  • Documenting Venipuncture and meds given

  • What, when, why, who, & how much

PLUS - wisdom sprinkled throughout the workshop

  • 8 CEU's applied for Twins, Breech and, ECV workshop (can be taken as a stand alone)
