My
name is Amy Darling. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Nutritional Science
and have been a NHCM since 2001. I trained as a direct-entry midwife in Scotland
and became a United Kingdom Registered Midwife in 1998. I moved back home to
NH (leaving a piece of my heart in those beautiful hills) in 1999 with my Scots
husband and my little Skye (born at home after a marathon labor!). Sweet Eilidh
was born at home in 2001 (this labor was a sprint!), and I think being a mama
is so precious!
I believe pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding are natural, normal
functions of a woman's mind, body and spirit. I believe a woman's body has been
wonderfully designed. I trust birth and marvel at the miracle of it all. When
allowed to follow its natural course, pregnancy usually results in the birth
of a healthy baby and mother.
I work in partnership with my clients, establishing trusting relationships
during the months of prenatal care. I fully support my clients in creating their
own birthing experience.
I believe that families are strengthened when birth is integrated into life as a normal event.
Shiphrah and Puah, the midwives in Exodus 1 in the Bible, serve as examples for me. Their faith in God strengthened them to have courage and do a good work, and God blessed them. I aim to bear these fruit in my profession: Love (for the women and families I serve), Peace (in all circumstances), Joy (in celebrating new life), Patience and Self-Control (during trying times, long labors and times of fatigue), Kindness, Goodness, and Gentleness (always) and Faithfulness (for strength and blessing).
